Italy is one of the study destinations for many international students for various courses, in particular, Architecture, Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Economics, Public Law, Engineering science, Mathematics, and many more. However, the application procedures are a bit different from other European Countries, as well as USA and Canada. Moreover, it is also time-consuming and has various bureaucratic procedures to be followed. Therefore, one should apply, taking a good amount of time without making any errors in haste. The problem for most of the international students before coming to any foreign country for the purpose of the study is the lack of adequate information about the application procedures, living costs, legal information about the visa, and scope of career after the completion of the study. In many countries, this task is supposed to be done by many Consultant companies who charge huge amounts of money to the applicants, however, do not provide proper information to the students. In this regard, we are going to explore some of the important terms to be understood by any foreign applicants.
Normally, in Italy, the following procedures should be followed, however, the application requirements differ from each university. Here, we will give the outline of the main application procedure.
1. Search and apply for the right course from the University of your choice
Italy has many world renowned universities offering a wide range of courses. At this step, the student should carefully choose the preferred course by studying the aims and objectives of the chosen course which will be found on the university web portals. In general, Italian public universities do not require graduate school entry exams like GRE and GMAT, but 90% of the universities require English Language Proficiency like IELTS (better) or TOEFL at the time of application. These requirements can be confirmed by the applicants by sending an email to the international place office. But the main criteria for getting an admission depends on whether your previous course of study is in line with the course you are applying for. As for as the admission fee is concerned, it is again university dependent and varies from zero to 50 Euros per course. Normally, you can apply for at most two courses in one university. Note that, the transcripts is a mandatory document for making an application whereas some universities require at least two letters of recommendation.
2. Apply for Pre-enrollment
Once you have received the provisional offer letter/admission letter / Nulla’osta, you can proceed with the Pre-enrollment procedure. This is applicable to all the non-EU applications living outside Italy. This can be done online using the universitaly portal. Upon the completion of this process, it leads to the issuing of the study visa type-D necessary for the enrolment. Please be reminded that, along with your application to our University, you MUST also submit the pre-enrolment application to the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your home country. This is necessary for the issuance of your Declaration of Value (DOV) which is a mandatory document for the visa application.
The confirmation of eligibility letter given by the University does not replace the official pre-enrolment procedure which must be done only through the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence.
Documents to be presented to diplomatic-consular Missions :
a) original copy of final secondary education qualification, obtained after at least 12 scholastic study years, or a fully legal substitute certificate;
b) certificate declaring the passing grade of an eventual special academic competence exam eventually required for entry to University in the Country of origin;
c) two photographs (of which one must be authenticated by the Italian Mission having jurisdiction for that territory);
d) a summary of the pre-enrolment request as validated by the university.
3. Wait for your Declaration of Value
After having completed the pre-enrollment application, you just have to wait for the reception of DOV. As soon as you get this document, you are eligible for making the visa application.
4. Apply for Visa
Apply for the visa with all the required documents including DOV in your home country.
5. Come to Italy
