If you are enrolled in one of the three universities in Tuscany Region Italy, i.e., University of Florence, University of Siena and University of Pisa, you can apply for scholarship provided by Diritto allo studio universitario (DSU) which provides scholarship in the form of Tution fee waiver, canteen services and accommodation services depending on the income status of the applicant. 1. What is DSU ?
DSU Toscana is the agency for the University Study Right of the Tuscany Regional Council (Regione Toscana) which grants various scholarships to the students (Italian and foreign) who has less economic in the form of free accommodation, free canteen services, exemption from university tuition fees and other monetary contributions covering sport activities, books and other activities.
2. Documents required
The type of documents required for the application process depends on the which category you belong to. So First of all it is very important to know in which category your country falls, then you should actually start preparing the documents required for that specific category. - EU students
The students from EU countries have to fill in a specific declaration, which can be downloaded at the end of the online application procedure. - Non EU from developing countries This is a particular category for the students coming from Non-EU in developing countries whose economic condition is very low. The list of countries falling in this category are given in this link. They JUST have to provide one of the following two documents; 1. a certificate indicating that they do not belong to a high income and high-status family released by Italian diplomatic representatives in the home country; 2. same certificate released by Diplomatic representative body (Embassy or Consulate) of the country of origin in Italy. NOTE that the certificate has to be legalized by the Italian Prefettura. Sample certificate is given below prepared for student from developing country.
- Non EU The students falling in this category must provided several documents like family status, income, real estate, and movable assets documents prepared in their respective home country, translated in Italian and legalized by the competent Italian diplomatic representatives of the home country.
3. Where and when should you apply ?
Since the academic year in Italy starts from October 1st of each year, the application deadline for DSU scholarship is mid September, however the exact date is changed every year so you should frequently visit the official website of DSU so that you don’t miss the deadline.
The application is done using the official portal of DSU. You have to register first with you personal information and the next step is to login to access the various services provided in the portal.
4. Print the receipt and send the documents to the DSU office
After you have completed the application procedure with all the necessary documents, you should print the final receipt and post all the original documents along with the receipt to the DSU office address indicated in the official website.
